Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry Honor Victims of London Terror Attack

09 Apr 2017

Story Summary

About two weeks after the attacks on Westminster, in which five people were killed and a dozen injured, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Kate Middleton attended a service at Westminster Abbey Wednesday, along with the families of the victims. About 1,800 people gathered for the Service of Hope. William placed a wreath of flowers at the memorial upon his arrival, including the message, “For PC Keith Palmer, and all those who have served our community so valiantly. Your legacy is our way of life. William.”

The royals were greeted by London mayor Sadiq Khan, as well as acting police commissioner Craig Mackey. William recited a Bible passage during the service, from Luke, Chapter 10, and the dean of Westminster, Reverend John Hall, led the proceedings.

“We are all affected by the attack a fortnight ago on Westminster Bridge and at the gates of the Palace of Westminster, and we are all left bewildered and disturbed,” Hall said. “But our sense of loss and diminishment is paled by comparison with that of the families of those who died: Aysha Frade, Kurt Cochran, and Leslie Rhodes on the bridge, and Police Constable Keith Palmer on duty at the gates of Parliament, and all those who were injured. Our hearts go out to them in sympathy and prayer and love.”

Following the attack, William met with staff members and paramedics who took those injured in the attack to the hospital. And Prince Charles also visited victims in King’s College Hospital. One day after the attack, Kate attended a mental-health charity event, where she told those assembled, “I know you would all want to join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to all those sadly affected by yesterday's terrible attack in Westminster . . . We will be thinking of all the families as we discuss the important issues we're here to talk about.”
