The latest news on Prince William and Kate Middleton

Duchess Kate Wears Yellow for Second Time Ever—But Nobody Faints

06 Jul 2012

Story Summary

In a twice-weekly report on London’s regal rumpus,’s Royal Watch plucks the best of the city’s tabloid news.

  • Another day, another Emilia Wickstead for the Duchess as she stepped out today—in “primrose yellow,” we’re told—to celebrate Prince William’s knighthood in the Order of the Thistle, the highest public-office honor in Scotland. The woven-silk, raffia-esque coatdress was made especially for her by the New Zealand-born designer, who also made this cheery pink knife-pleated coatdress that Kate’s been wearing recently, as well as this emerald-green outfit that made a guy faint. So cheery! So Scottish (with the help of a tartan scarf)! And yet, a word to K.Middy as she continues to go to custom atelier fittings: have the things tailored in the arms, girl! On the extra-slim duchess, coats tend to look like they’re cut for Ryan Lochte, and somehow that seems preventable. Meanwhile, on the topic of Dukan-sleek appendages: Kate has publicly worn yellow only once before, and chances are you remember how that went down.
  • Yesterday’s semi-final match of Wimbledon was apparently also a fashion-off between the Duchess of Cambridge and tennis star Andy Murray’s girlfriend, Kim Sears, per the Daily Mail. Catherine went for the repeat approach with the white-and-navy nautical Alexander McQueen dress—worn with diamonds and sapphires—while Sears went for “I actually realize I’m at a sporting event” chic, in black denim trousers, a gray T-shirt, and a faded-denim buttondown. The Mail favors Kate, but we think Kim’s breezy aesthetic sort of suits an afternoon of tennis. Deuce, we declare!
